We held our very memorable first Christmas Party for Muna English School on December 22, 2019. It was our very first Christmas event for our school (we’ve held two in the past for Muna Kids English Circle). We enjoyed a week of Christmas activities including making Christmas cards and crafts. On the day of the Christmas Party, the kids had a Disney Song performance and enjoyed food, drinks, activities, baking, and best of all, presents from Santa Claus. It was a great way to end the year before the winter vacation!
Christmas Cards
During the week leading up to the Christmas Party, the Elementary School kids made Christmas Cards for their parents. The cards had English messages in them that the kids wrote and were then decorated as reindeer using craft materials. The kids gave the cards to their parents on the day of the Christmas Party. The parents were surprised to receive such lovely cards from their kids!
Christmas Crafts and Games
During the week leading up to the Christmas Party, the Mommy & Me and Kindergarten kids played some games and made Christmas Tree crafts. For the game, they learned a Christmas song “I’m a Little Snowman” and then they wore a blindfold while trying to make a snowman using verbal cues from their classmates. For the craft, they made paper Christmas trees which they decorated with craft materials. In the Mommy & Me class, they even decorated the real Christmas tree! It was a really fun week!
Christmas Party
On the day of the Christmas Party, every student and their family were invited to come and enjoy the event together. We enjoyed two huge Christmas cakes which was so much that we couldn’t even finish them in the end! The kids also enjoyed making popcorn garlands, a popular Christmas season activity in Canada. They made the garlands by using a toothpick and thread. It actually needs patience since the popcorn can easily crack, however it can be fun since the kids can enjoy chatting with family and friends while snacking on popcorn as they work on it. It was a fun winter activity!
Disney Songs
Students of the Kindergarten and Elementary School classes challenged singing two Disney songs in English. At first they learned “Let It Go” from Frozen. Then a week before Frozen 2 came out in November, they learned “Into the Unknown”. The kids’ abilities were amazing! They were good at listening and copying the lyrics and were able to sing like native speakers. They performed the songs at the Christmas Party and were successful even though they were a little bit nervous singing together with other school students and in front of all of the parents.
Gingerbread Man Cookies
The kids and parents got a great experience cooking in the cooking room at the community center. Gingerbread man cookies is a Christmas thing that isn’t widely known in Japan. We baked Gingerbread man cookies by mixing dough, making shapes by cookie cutter, and decorating on original faces. How was the taste of the cookie with cinnamon and ginger spice which Japanese products don’t usually have? We couldn’t taste the cookies together at the party since time was limited, but we hope the kids enjoyed their cooking experience where they felt the texture of dough and the smell of spices!
Presents from Santa
At the end of the party, Santa came to visit all the kids who had been good boys and girls this year! What was inside in the gift bags with cute Olafs on them? Santa hopes the kids were happy with their presets!
Also the Elementary School kids gave the Christmas cards they made to their parents at the same time. The parents were surprised to also receive a nice Christmas present!
We would like to say thank you to all the parents who helped us so much to have this party. We were shorthanded but the parents gave us a lot of help and support during and after the party. Our first year was a fulfilling and fun year since we were able to meet such nice students and parents. We will continue to work hard to make our school a friendly school for our students and their families.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
