Muna Halloween 2019
Muna Halloween 2019

We held our very memorable first Halloween Party for Muna English School on October 31, 2019. Since it was our very first Halloween event for our school (we’ve held two in the past for Muna Kids English Circle), Nam’s friend Oi and her daughter Amelia visited us from Canada♪ We enjoyed a week of Halloween activities including Jack-o-Lantern carving and finished off with a huge Halloween Party full of food, drinks, activities, and best of all, real trick-or-treating in the neighbourhood with our Canadian guests.

Halloween Week

During the week of Halloween, we made Jack-o-Lanterns with the Kindergarten and Elementary School kids. For most of the kids, it was their first time to carve a real pumpkin. This hands on activity is one that every child in Canada experiences and we really wanted all of our kids at Muna English to have the same experience. For the Mommy & Me and Kindergarten classes, we did some arts & crafts where we made cute ghosts.

Halloween Party

On the day of the Halloween Party, every student and their family were invited to come and enjoy the event together. It was wonderful to see the kids with their siblings dressed up in all sorts of costumes.

The Potion Lounge

The inside of our school became a lounge with backlights and Halloween music. We had a Potion Bar with snacks and other drinks available.

Our guest from Canada, Amelia, was our little witch who served potions to the students at the Potion Bar. The magical potions she made glowed mysteriously under the blacklight and came in 3 different colours and flavours. The drinks were very popular with everyone!

We also had a table in the lounge where kids were able to write “secret messages” that glowed in the dark. The kids stuck these messages all around the room. There were so many glowing messages and pictures everywhere. Everybody, including the parents, were thrilled with the different world which they usually can’t experience.

Magic Mud

When Nam was an child, one of his favourite science experiments was Magic Mud. This is made simply by mixing cornstarch, water, and food colouring. It creates a mysterious thing that is both a hard solid and a slimy looking liquid at the same time.

At the Halloween Party, the kids really enjoyed playing with it in their hands and feeling the texture of this mysterious Magic Mud. Pictures alone cannot describe it as you have to get your hands dirty and feel it yourself to appreciate it, which only a few adults tried. The kids had a lot of fun getting their hands dirty!

Halloween Bingo

During our Halloween lesson week, each class made a Jack-o-Lantern. At the Halloween Party, we put up the Jack-o-Lanterns as prizes for Bingo! The kids who were lucky enough to win were able to take a Jack-o-Lantern home with them!

Trick-or-Treat

Just as the sun began to set, we prepared the kids for the best part of Halloween: Trick-or-Treating! It was just as you would expect in Canada. The kids walked around the neighbourhood near our school and got treats from many different houses. Even the neighbours were speaking English saying, “Here you are!” and “Happy Halloween!” after the kids said, “Trick-or-Treat!”.

As expected, this was the most popular activity for the kids. Amelia, who is from Canada, was glad she got to Trick-or-Treat in in Japan. It was an unforgettable unique experience for everybody.

We would like to say thank you again for our neighbours who helped with trick-or-treat. Thanks for their help we were able to hold a fun and safe Halloween Party in which we were very satisfied. We will work hard to continue to make our school a trustable and friendly school for our neighbours while providing unique experiences for our students. And we are looking forward to next year’s Halloween which will be an even bigger and better event!
